Hi Everyone,
Today I’m deviating from posting Spring Flowers.
I began working on this piece of Conceptual Photography several days ago, and, truthfully, it wasn’t going well.
I usually have a mental image of the finished product I want before I start a piece.
Of course, it never ends up exactly the same as my pre -conception, but it’s usually close.
There’s always little additions / subtractions that improve the work. And sometimes even bursts of inspiration.
I’ll put this one in the last category.
My initial idea was to have this cool boardwalk with two beach chairs at the end of it. Probably the umbrellas, too, but I wasn’t sure on their placement.
But it just wasn’t working. However, I loved the colors and textures, and I hated to scrap the project altogether.
At that point, inspiration entered, and I decided to remove the chairs and add some semitransparent layers (the palms and the surfer ) using varied blending modes.
That gave me a focal point plus ideas on the umbrella placements. The added texture you see came from my palm picture.
It finally came together and I was done. On to the next project…
I would love to hear your comments on this piece. Please go to my Facebook page and let me know what you think!
( In case you were wondering, I took the surf scene in North Wildwood, NJ, and the umbrellas and sand in Cape May, NJ. )
Prints are available.
See you next time, but check out the rest of my website now, if you have a chance.
